French Montana lands in South Africa this December for two headline shows, bringing chart-tested hip hop to Cape Town and Johannesburg as the centerpiece of the inaugural Afrotrax festival series.
For fans in Cape Town, the show takes place at The Ostrich Farm on Friday, 4 December, with gates opening at 2pm and the night running until midnight. Johannesburg follows the very next day, Saturday, 5 December, at The Canvas, where doors open at 1pm and the festival continues until 11pm. Both venues promise full days of entertainment around the headline act, with local artists and DJs, food vendors, lifestyle activations, premium hospitality, and large-scale stage production rounding out the experience.
Montana’s catalogue gives South African audiences plenty to anticipate. His most recognizable solo tracks include Unforgettable, No Stylist, Pop That and Ain’t Worried About Nothin’, releases that have accumulated billions of streams globally. His collaborator list reads like a who’s who of contemporary hip hop: Drake, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Cardi B, Swae Lee and Chris Brown have all featured alongside him, partnerships that have significantly extended his reach on streaming platforms worldwide.
The Afrotrax festival is designed to do more than book a big name. Organisers describe it as a dedicated platform for African creative talent, one that simultaneously connects local audiences with major international artists. “Afrotrax represents a new chapter in African live entertainment,” they said in a statement. “Our vision is to build a platform that celebrates African culture while connecting audiences with some of the most influential artists in the world. Launching the brand with French Montana is a significant milestone for us and the beginning of something much bigger.”
Each city’s event has been shaped around its setting. The Johannesburg edition at The Canvas leans into an energetic urban festival atmosphere, while Cape Town’s show at The Ostrich Farm is pitched as outdoor summer entertainment in keeping with the city’s seasonal character. The distinction matters: rather than a copy-paste touring package, organisers appear to be tailoring each experience to its community.
Meanwhile, the full picture of both lineups is still taking shape. Organisers have confirmed that further performer announcements, support acts, VIP experiences and hospitality packages will be revealed in the coming weeks. Ticket sales run exclusively through Playy, and fans are encouraged to register early for priority access, according to reporting at https://www.citizen.co.za/lifestyle/entertainment/french-montana-to-headline-two-massive-south-african-shows-this-december/.
Whether Afrotrax can deliver on its promise of being “the beginning of something much bigger” may depend on how these first two shows land with the crowds that fill The Ostrich Farm and The Canvas this December.
